Amino Apps Are Gone — Where Did Amino Go? (2026)

5 min read

Amino apps are gone from the App Store and Google Play, and the website no longer works. Where did Amino go, why, and what should you use instead? Complete 2026 answer.

Amino Apps Are Gone — Where Did Amino Go?

Amino is no longer in the App Store, no longer in Google Play, and AminoApps.com shows a maintenance page that never updates. Here is the short answer to where it went, why, and what to use instead.

The short answer

Amino is gone — not relocated, not migrated, not pending an acquisition. The mobile apps were pulled from the iOS App Store and Google Play during 2024. The website (aminoapps.com) was switched to a permanent maintenance page in 2025. The servers that powered chat, posting, login, and notifications were decommissioned. There is no public plan to bring it back.

Why amino apps disappeared

Amino was acquired by MediaLab in 2021. MediaLab's track record across other products (Whisper, Kik, Genius) is consistent: engineering teams are cut, products are run as ad inventory, and when the math stops working the products are quietly retired. Amino followed that exact path.

The trigger that turned slow decline into hard shutdown was the moderation collapse around 2023. Once the team that maintained Amino's automated moderation was gone, the system began banning long-time leaders for routine content while leaving spam untouched. Without leaders, communities died. Without active communities, DAU collapsed. Without DAU, the ad revenue could no longer pay the hosting bill. So MediaLab pulled the apps.

Will amino come back?

No public sign of it. The IP rights still sit with MediaLab. There is no rumored acquirer in talks. No community fork has reverse-engineered the backend. The most realistic outcome is that the brand stays dormant indefinitely.

Where the communities went

Most former Amino communities are spread across four platforms in 2026:

  1. Aminoka — same structural model as Amino. Most former Amino leaders looking for a like-for-like replacement landed here. Open Aminoka.
  2. Discord — best for chat-driven communities. See Amino vs Discord for the side-by-side.
  3. Reddit — fine for asynchronous discussion but no profiles, no leveling, no leader hierarchy.
  4. Tumblr — survived for roleplay + shipping communities; never had Amino's community-join model.

If you led an amino community, do this

Three steps that determine whether 60% or 10% of your members make it to the new platform:

  1. Pick the destination today. Don't wait.
  2. Post a migration announcement on every channel you still have to your members (DMs, Discord, Reddit, side-Amino-installs that still work).
  3. Run a launch event in the first 72 hours — even a 1-hour livestream chat is enough.

Frequently asked questions

Are amino apps gone? +

Yes — Amino was removed from the iOS App Store and Google Play in 2024, and AminoApps.com went into permanent maintenance in 2025. The platform is no longer operational.

Where did amino go? +

Nowhere. The company that owned Amino (MediaLab) decommissioned the servers and pulled the apps from the stores. There was no sale or migration to a new platform. Existing communities scattered across Discord, Reddit, Tumblr, and dedicated replacements like Aminoka.

Is amino coming back? +

There is no publicly announced plan to bring Amino back. No acquirer has been named, no community fork has reverse-engineered the backend. Treat it as permanently gone.

What replaced amino? +

Aminoka is the closest one-for-one structural replacement (communities, profiles, leveling, leader hierarchy, roleplay matchmaker). Discord is the chat-only option. Reddit for asynchronous threads. Tumblr for roleplay and shipping.

Aminoka: Built for Refugees of Amino

We built Aminoka because we were Amino users too. We saw what MediaLab did, watched the app we loved crumble, and decided to create something new — community first, not profits.
