The short answer

What Discord RP servers patch together

A typical Discord RP server stitches together five separate things:

• Tupperbox bot — character webhooks so OCs can speak under their own name. Requires server-admin permissions; doesn't work in DMs.
• #oc-sheets channel — flat dump of character profiles in chat messages. Impossible to browse or search.

OC library — each character has a profile page with portrait, photo gallery, bio, traits, abilities, stats, public kudos counter. Searchable across the app via the OC discover tab. The closest comparable system on Discord is Toyhouse links pinned to a channel — flat, slow, separate from chat.

Chat persona switching — equip an OC for a specific chat room and every message broadcasts under that character's name + portrait. Switch OCs mid-chat by re-equipping. Native; no Tupperbox, no admin perms, works in DMs.

Roleplay matchmaker — public pitch board where you post your OC + premise. Partners send offers with their own OC. Accept → private chat opens with both characters pre-equipped. The pitch board is sorted by online status first, then recency — so you're always pitching to people actively looking.

Communities with leader hierarchy — large RP communities run as Aminoka communities with leader / curator / host roles. Mute, ban, kick all native. Public + private chats per community.

When Discord still wins

Voice + video chat. Discord's voice channels and screen share are unmatched. Aminoka has voice messages but not voice channels yet.

Existing network effect. If your community is already 500+ members deep on Discord, the migration cost is real. Most successful migrations run both for 60-90 days before pruning the old server.

Pure chat velocity. If your RP is 90% live in-character chat with no profile/wall/leveling overhead, Discord's pure-chat focus works fine.
