What roleplay is, in 60 seconds
Roleplay (RP) is collaborative storytelling. You play a character; your partner(s) play theirs; together you write a story turn-by-turn. The medium is usually text chat. It's the same instinct as tabletop D&D, just in chat form and usually freer-shaped.
The five-step starter
- Pick a fandom. Something you already love, easier than original-world to start.
- Make a basic OC. Name, role, two personality traits, one quirk. Aminoka's OC maker takes 5 minutes.

RP style cheat sheet
- Chat-style: 1-2 sentences per turn. Fastest, easiest.
- Semi-lit / para: 1 paragraph per turn. The mainstream sweet spot.
- Literate / multi-para: multiple paragraphs, descriptive prose, internal monologue. Most novel-like.
- Novella: many paragraphs, slow pace, near-publishable prose.
